Schottish Highlanders - Calves
We are lucky to have the visit each year of an impressive Stud Book bull so each year a couple of calves are born. The unsold bull-calves are castrated and live with the herd till they are about 3 years old. After that they are then slaughtered.
The calf develops quickly thanks to the good care the mother gives. The calf receives protection not only from his mum but from the whole group.
It is always pure delight to see the calves playing together, they are so curious, everything has to be investigated, sniffed at and tasted. |
