Scottish Highlanders

As its name says, the Scottish Highlander originates from Scotland. It is a breed that possibly  descends from the prehistoric oxen and adapted itself to weather the severe climate in the Scottish highlands. That’s why the Scottish Highlander is perfectly suitable for the Dutch climate and can winter out. It is able to stand up against food-poor conditions and does extremely well as grazer in nature reserves.  It eats grass and herbs and likes eating reed.

The Scottish Highlander has a friendly and quiet nature. They are watchful and usually keep their distance from strange people. Because of how we keep them, our cows are more used to be around people and so easier to get near.

It happens often that passers-by stop to admire them and they in turn enjoy admiring the passers-by.  NOVA Stables chose this special breed because of all these qualities. They live out in perfect harmony with our sheep and horses and help keep the abundant growth of grass under control.
